Every year, Golf Travellers donates part of its benefits to Karuna-Shechen Foundation, providing humanitarian projects for Himalayan people.
Founded by Matthieu Ricard, Buddhist monk and French interpreter for the Dalai Lama, Karuna-Shechen is a foundation providing quality healthcare, education and social services for the under-served people of India, Nepal and Tibet. Karuna-Shechen’s missions are also to develop the empowerment of women and young girls, and the preservation of cultural heritage.
The members of the Foundation try to create projects that are sustainable models, in order to be duplicated and continued in the future.
For example, Karuna-Shechen is involved in the construction of new schools and improves the quality of education in existing schools. Karuna-Shechen also provides medical services and health education to individuals and families through clinics, and mobile outreach programs.
The Foundation has established an effective collaborative team of trained workers from the local population. The Foundation works with local NGOs too, and their clinics in India and Nepal now serve as hubs for their projects.
