This course, founded in 1851, is full of history most notably because it was the first course to host the British Open in 1860. During the Open it was a 12 hole course instead of an 18 hole golf course. At that time the Open was played over 36 holes (3 times 12 holes) and the trophy was a belt made of red leather, later becoming the famous “claret jug”. This is a lovely links course with lots of charm. A really fun links course to play, full of bumps. The 17th is the signature hole with its gigantic bunker. For your information, both jacket and tie must be worn if you want to have the chance to enjoy a drink at the 19th hole. |
